The Shark Finally Bites: Acosta Takes Maiden MotoGP Win at KTM’s Home Race
If you missed the Austrian Grand Prix overnight, here’s the headline every motorcycle person should hear: Pedro Acosta has finally won a MotoGP race. The Shark did it at the Red Bull Ring — KTM’s home circuit — after fifteen premier-class podiums without a win, bouncing back from a Saturday sprint crash to beat championship leader Jorge Martín. It’s KTM’s first MotoGP victory in years, and a proper send-off before Acosta leaves for Ducati. The official highlights are worth six minutes of your life. We’ll drop the link on the club page after the meeting.
The wait is over. On Sunday at Spielberg, 22-year-old Pedro Acosta finally became a MotoGP race winner — and he did it in the most fitting place possible. After crashing out of the lead in Saturday’s sprint at KTM’s home Grand Prix, “The Shark” lined up third on Sunday, carved through Marc Márquez and the Aprilias, then took the lead from Jorge Martín on lap nine of 28 and never gave it back. He won by just over a second. That result ends a stubborn streak of 15 premier-class podiums without a victory, and it is KTM’s first MotoGP win since 2022. Acosta called it “a nice way to close a circle with KTM, in front of all the Austrian fans,” and then celebrated by laying the RC16 down and rolling at the scene of Saturday’s crash. Martín still stretched his championship lead with second, Bezzecchi completed the podium, and Márquez finished fifth — but the day belonged to the kid in orange.
