Subject: Important Reminder – Using Your Historic Motorcycle for AWMEC Club Events
G’day AWMEC Members,
As we head into more riding season events, a quick reminder on the rules for using your historic-registered motorcycle on club rides. This helps everyone stay legal and enjoy the rides without any hassles from authorities.
Club Events
A club event includes any activity listed on our website, at https://www.awmec.com.au/rides/ . Downloadable at https://www.awmec.com.au/wp-content/uploads/AWMEC-RIDE-CALENDAR.pdf
Best and simplest option recommended by NSWHMA:
- Record the outing in your 60-day Historic Vehicle Log Book before you head out. This avoids any confusion, covers you fully, and is the clearest advice from the NSW Historic Motoring Association.
If you choose NOT to log the event in your book:
- You must carry paper proof that the club has approved/sanctioned the event. Police are unlikely to accept an app, website or Facebook post as evidence.
- Carry your current AWMEC membership card + a printed copy of the event details ( AWMEC RIDE CALENDAR ).
- Stick exactly to the route and details described in the event listing. Any detour requires a log book entry.
Official NSW Rules Summary (from Service NSW)
If your vehicle has historic vehicle registration, it can only be used:
- for events organised by recognised historic vehicle clubs (AWMEC), if an official invitation is received and recorded by the primary club in the official minutes or ‘Day Book’ aka AWMEC-RIDE-CALENDAR
- for events organised by community organisations if an official invitation is received and recorded by the primary club in the official minutes or ‘Day Book’ aka AWMEC-RIDE-CALENDAR
- for short journeys to service and inspect the vehicle.
- on longer journeys if you notify your primary club and the details are recorded in the primary club’s official minutes. aka RSVP to Overnight Events
- within the conditions of the historic and classic vehicle log book (if applicable).
Our strong recommendation as a club:
Log every ride in your 60-day book. It’s the safest, simplest way and fully supported by NSWHMA. It removes doubt if you’re pulled over.
